With temperatures averaging in the mid 30’s, and high humidity levels, units need to be rated to around 40 degrees ambient to cope with the heat. Anything less simply won’t keep up. That’s why it’s best to stick to the major brands such as Daikin, Fujitsu, Toshiba and Mitsubishi (HI).

Everyone has a different level of comfort, but if you’re looking at it economically, around 24-26 degrees is on the mark. We’ve seen huge leaps in energy savings in air-conditioning in recent years and the technology going into the major brands is definitely saving customers money.

The Kimberley – for obvious reasons – is a heavy use area for air-conditioners.  To keep them running efficiently and effectively, you should be getting them looked at every 12 months. Most air-conditioners need a major service every two years, but depending on the use, it may be required sooner. A good thing to look for if you think yours may need a clean is a dead spot where air discharges from the indoor unit. This is a good indicator that your fan and coil are blocked.
